Claire Chiang

Claire is Co-founder of Banyan Tree Group, the Executive Director for Banyan Tree Gallery and the Chairperson for China Business Development since 2006, focusing on the acquisition of new management contracts. As Chair of Learning and Development for the group, she oversees key strategic issues in organisational and human capital capability. She also chairs Banyan Tree Global Foundation Ltd, and its Enterprise Environmental and Community Fund in partnership with Chinese Environmental Protection Foundation, responsible for directing and guiding the evolving process of the group’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and its mission to “Embrace the Environment, Empower the People”.

For her advocacy in social issues, Claire has won national and international awards, including the 2008 Public Service Medal (PBM) and 2014 Singapore Public Service Star (BBM), for implementing work-life integration. She was the inaugural Women Entrepreneur Award 2017 Supernova Winner and inducted to Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame established by Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations. She received Asia’s Top Sustainability Superwomen Award 2018 for impactful sustainability leadership. Claire was awarded Outstanding Women Award 2019 and Bold Women Entrepreneurs Award 2020, by Shanghai Daily & sHero, China, for championing gender diversity.

Claire was appointed the Justice of Peace by past Singapore President SR Nathan since 2008 and served as Nominated Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2001. She is one of the first two women admitted to the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry in 1995 and holds directorships in the Mandai Nature Fund and Mandai Park Holdings. In year 2018, she was appointed the Advisory Committee member for both Guilin Tourism University in China and School of Hotel and Tourism Management, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She chairs the Singapore Book Council and Shirin Fozdar Program in Singapore Management University. In 2021, she was appointed the Advisory Board Member of The Conference Board Global Sustainability Centre, Europe and the Climate Governance Singapore Advisory Board.
